NSFW Teaser For ‘Chuck Hank And The San Diego Twins’ Goes Apocalyptic, Mad Max-Style

Two years ago almost to the day, we asked this question: “What happened to Evan Glodell and the dudes that made Bellflower? We need more.” This was in 2015, the writer/director’s DIY, micro-budgeted debut; “Bellflower” debuted at the SXSW Film Festival in 2011.

The film was made by friends under the moniker of Coatwolf Productions. What were they doing all this time? Well, quietly (not so quietly) crowdfunding a new film called “Chuck Hank And The San Diego Twins” that sounded like a gonzo, “Escape From New York” meets “The Warriors” meets “Mad Max,” and one that’s apparently influenced by a lot of 1980s video games. Here’s an old synopsis:

A turf war has been raging in Oldtown for generations. On one side, The Syndicate — an evil gang of crank-head misfits, who has been set on muscling the San Diego family out of the parcel of land they own in the center of town. On the other side, the San Diego family: Tony and Johnny — twin brothers, and their sister Salsa are the last of a bloodline that stretches back for generations. Their mother, father and brothers were all brutally murdered in a violent clash with The Syndicate years earlier. With their neighborhood becoming increasingly fearful, The Syndicate puts into action another evil advance on their family’s fading legacy by kidnapping Salsa — all hell breaks loose. The twins and their best friend Chuck Hank must decide whether to hand over the deed to their families land in order to save their sister or fight, the final fight!

Now the Coatwolf team is back and, well, that description certainly looks exactly like the finished film. This one is written and directed by Jonathan Keevil, a composer, editor and producer on “Bellflower.” The first teaser for the film arrived this week, and it’s NSFW, hilarious and batshit crazy at the same time. It’s rather insane that it took them six years to make a new one, but ‘Chuck Hank’ looks worth the wait. Glodell once again stars (he’s a multi-hyphened threat), and the film co-stars Keevil, Tyler Dawson (“Bellflower”), David Arquette (the “Scream” franchise), Troian Bellisario (“Pretty Little Liars”), Michael Paré (“Streets of Fire”), Olivia Taylor Dudley (“The Magicians”) and MMA fighters Don Frye and Josh Barnett, according to EW.

There’s no release date for the film, but the trailer says coming “Summer 2017,” so at least we have a ballpark figure. This trailer is nuts and looks fabulous. Fans of the aforementioned films and “The Raid” are likely going to flip backwards for this one.
