Neither “Full Frontal” or “The Late Show” earned nominations last year, but at least one of them has to make the field this time around, right?  In a season of scathing political commentary and comedy  Samantha Bee‘s work on “Full Frontal” is arguably the best.  Stephen Colbert, on the other hand, has made a slight return to his “Colbert Report” and “Daily Show” political comedy roots to take the “Late Show” back to no. 1 in the ratings.  James Cordon‘s “Late Late Show” only continues to grow in pop culture relevance and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” has been, at worst, incredibly consistent. In a perfect world “Late Night with Seth Meyers” would make the cut, but can both Jerry Seinfeld (“Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee“) and Jimmy Fallon (“The Tonight Show“) find themselves on the outside looking in after nods last year?  We’re guessing the former misses the cut, but Fallon could as well.  Needless to say, competitive. Hopefully “Full Frontal” has this. Best thing right now!

And I’m sorry, but in what world “Chelsea” is 5 spots above Colbert?! LOVE her, but reviews for S01 of “Chelsea” were terrible. Here’s hoping that she does better with S02.
