Using clips from the films, Beyl discusses the influences seen in the movies, as well as their cultural impact. “Fargo,” released in 1996, starred Frances McDormand in an Academy Award winning role, and was the first film that gave the directors mainstream success. The movie went on to win numerous awards, and is discussed as one of the best films of the ‘90s. Most recently, “Fargo” has been adapted into an award winning series on FX Network.

Following their success with “Fargo,” the brothers went on to write and direct “The Big Lebowski” which upon release was received with mixed reviews and a slightly disappointing box office. However, in subsequent years, ‘Lebowski’ has gone to on to become a cultural phenomenon and, along with “Fargo,” was added to the Library of Congress. Both show the filmmakers truly establishing their mastery of drama, comedy and genre elements, that would only be further refined in the films to follow.
