Today's Rumor Killer: Danny Boyle Was Never On For 'Sympathy For Lady Vengeance'; 'My Fair Lady' Remake Instead?

In March, 2008 it was reported that Charlize Theron was producing and starring in a remake of Korean director Park Chan-Wook Wook-Park’s breathtaking “Sympathy For Lady Vengeance” — the final film in his revenge trilogy.

The gig was reportedly offered to Danny Boyle at one point, but the “Slumdog Millionaire,” has debunked the news that he was ever interested or eventually going to tackle it.

“I’ve seen the movie. I’ve seen [Park’s] ‘Oldboy’ and ‘Lady Vengeance,’” he MTV News. “But no I was never going to do that. I don’t know where that story came from.”

Is Theron still interested in remaking this thing? The film is stunning and perfect. Let it lie as is. Dear Hollywood, please only remake missed opportunities that could’ve been great, thank you.

Update: Hold the phone. EW is saying Boyle is seriously considering a remake of the musical “My Fair Lady” (his reps won’t comment on it). It does make sense though. The musical is the holy grail for film directors as it’s a legendarily difficult achievement to pull off. It’s why genre-hoppers like Boyle and Soderbergh are both interested in one day tackling. This isn’t the first time Boyle has expressed interest in directing a musical either. Last September he talked about making one with the band British band I Am Kloot.
