Adam Driver Is A Poetry Writing Bus Driver In New Trailer For Jim Jarmusch's 'Paterson'

While last year, the world was awaiting Adam Driver‘s turn as the villainous Kylo Ren in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” this fall and winter will find the actor in less emo territory. The actor has a role in Martin Scorsese‘s highly anticipated “Silence,” but first comes his low key performance in Jim Jarmusch‘s patient “Paterson.”

Premiering this spring at the Cannes Film Festival, and picking up buzz at countless festivals stops since, this simple movie follows the regular day routines of Paterson a bus driver in Paterson, New Jersey (yep, he has the same name as the city he lives in). And by all accounts, this one is a charmer. Here’s the synopsis:

Paterson is a bus driver in the city of Paterson, New Jersey — they share the name.

Every day, Paterson adheres to a simple routine: he drives his daily route, observing the city as it drifts across his windshield and overhearing fragments of conversation swirling around him; he writes poetry into a notebook; he walks his dog; he stops in a bar and drinks exactly one beer; he goes home to his wife, Laura. By contrast, Laura’s world is ever changing. New dreams come to her almost daily.

Paterson loves Laura and she loves him. He supports her newfound ambitions; she champions his gift for poetry.

The film quietly observes the triumphs and defeats of daily life, along with the poetry evident in its smallest details.

“Paterson” opens on December 28th. [The Independent]
