Adrien Brody Joins Tony Kaye's School Drama 'Detachment'

Adrien Brody has joined the huge cast of Marcia Gay Harden, Christina Hendricks, William Peterson, Bryan Cranston, Tim Blake Nelson, Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner and James Caan in “American History X” director Tony Kaye’s school drama, “Detachment.”

This one seems to have been flying really below the radar — shooting began on July 25th and this is the first we’re hearing about it — but the film “chronicles the lives of several high school teachers, administrators and students as told through the eye of a substitute teacher.” Brody is slotted to play the lead role.

Tony Kaye certainly hasn’t had the easiest of roads. We won’t recount the battle surrounding “American History X” except to say that it was bitter, his 2006 abortion documentary “Lake Of Fire” got very little heat and his completed New Orleans thriller “Black Water Transit” starring Laurence Fishburne, Karl Urban and Brittany Snow is currently sitting with David Bergstein, who is either putting it all on black on some Las Vegas casino or, more likely, letting it collect dust.

Here’s hoping this film gets made without any problems. No release date has been set but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it do the early festival rounds (Sundance, SXSW, etc.) in 2011.
