The bad news is that we’re probably not getting a new feature film from Steve McQueen for a while. The good news? He’s found a new home for long-form storytelling on television. HBO has already ordered up the six-part limited series "Codes Of Conduct," and now the BBC is giving the director another canvas to tell a sprawling story.
Screen Daily reports that McQueen will co-write and direct an untitled drama for the BBC that will track the lives of black Britons living in West London, from 1968 to the present day. The project was first announced a little over a year ago, but things are now moving ahead in earnest, with a spring 2016 shoot getting lined up, and the hunt is on for writers to tackle the scripts. In short, there are two new TV series coming from Steve McQueen and all we can say is: hell yes. And don’t forget that he’s got more ideas kicking around. Back in 2012 it was revealed he was working on a project about the the 1981 Brixton riots, so hopefully that’s still percolating as well.
No word yet on air dates for either "Codes Of Conduct" or this BBC series, but McQueen has a full dance card for the foreseeable future.
