Beat Union-Disconnected

I hear a lot of The Clash in Beat Union's debut full length. They have that raggae dance influenced punk sound that Joe Strummer and company made famous back in the day, full of anthems and parts that dare the listener to sing along. There are some parts and songs (especially "Dancing in Our Sleep") that remind me of Millencolin. Then they throw in the modern sounds of today, which isn't nearly as enjoyable or inspiring, for the most part.

Everything combined, Beat Union have an uncanny ability to write some pretty fun songs. Even the more modern sounding stuff has its moments, despite the fact that it sounds relatively bare. Beat Union sound like they are playing each song with a smile on their faces. I enjoy the vocals of Dave Warsop, keeping things interesting even when the music gets boring ("All On My Own"). The vocals are what carries Beat Union to something more than just an also ran.

There are more aspects to enjoy than not on Disconnected, and I'm excited about Beat Union. They are a fun loving sounding band that has peaks that far outweigh the valleys.
