Blacklisted-Heavier Than Heaven, Holier Than God
Deathwish
April 1, 2008
This is a slight departure for Blacklisted, but a direction that I'm really enjoying. The songs are short for the most part (one song is over four minutes and another over three), as this album blazes along at horserace speed. This description doesn't sound all that out of the ordinary for a hardcore band, but Blacklisted add a lot of groove to their songs. They set the stage with some nice rock riffs, riffs that lean towards the southern style but done in a way that it sounds somewhat original.
I was a little disappointed when I first listened to this album via Myspace before it was released. It wasn't what I was expecting, and it took a couple listens to realize how great this album, and Blacklisted's direction, really are. These are songs that have depth and a lot of interesting parts that add so much extra enjoyment. They are a band that is taking hardcore in a whole other direction.
