Victory is a label that people love to hate, but the simple fact is that they hit more than they miss, especially when it comes to ska punk bands (as odd as that sounds). Catch 22 and Streetlight Manifesto both impressed the hell out of me, and the label seemed to have struck gold once again with Chase Long Beach. I don't listen to much ska or ska punk bands, but the ones I like seem to hold a special place in my heart, and the combination of solid musicianship, tight horns and great female vocals has lumped this band into that mold.
Because of the female vocals, I'm reminded of No Doubt when I listen to this band, but they have more in common with Keasby Nights than Tragic Kingdom. Vocalist Karen is at the forefront with a soaring voice that is a great combination between raw punk and polished melody. The music, all around, is non stop talent, and she aligns her vocal lines to fit in wonderfully. I love the horns and their ability to keep things non stop interesting. They take center stage when needed, but know how to hold back as well.
Gravity is What You Make It is a well rounded ska punk album that has been getting a lot of listens. There's something about it that has "classic" written all over it. Every song is a damn good time.
