Driver Side Impact have improved upon their debut with their follow up, Lion. Their energy and enthusiasm is commendable, and they use both strengths to hit home their emotional melodic emo indie pop rock sound. The music is fun and high impact, youthful but not immature.
At times, I'm reminded of Thursday, with their sing/scream parts and use of volume dynamics. Other times, they sound like a pop rock band writing catchy as all hell hooks that will make the listener keep coming back for more listens. They combine the two styles very evenly, making for an album that doesn't sound like a stretch one way or the other. The vocals of Branden Langhals sound like a 14 year old at times, but he has good vocal lines that enable me to overlook that.
The young sounding vocals aside, Driver Side Impact have come a long way between their debut and sophmore albums. I'm excited about this band and will be rooting for their success.
