There are things I like about Emmure and things I don't like about Emmure. I'm gonna start with the negatives: Emmure don't do anything out of the ordinary, meaning that there is not an original bone in their collective bodies. They play breakdown laden tough guy hardcore, and they stick to that like a mouse dying in a trap. This can get monotaneous and boring to the listener that isn't completely enthralled in this style of music.
I do enjoy Emmure' use of syncopation. The guitar lines, which are matched nicely by the drumming, often are interesting enough to keep things from getting overly stale. There is always something for the listener (this may be more enjoyable to one who has musical training) to keep an ear out for, and Emmure excell at that. I'm also a pretty big fan of the vocals. There are a couple different voices in their arsenal, and they use them well to their advantage. I don't have a favorite, as the higher voice and the deeper voice are both a treat to listen to.
Emmure don't pretend to be anything but a tough hitting, breakdown fueled hardcore band. This leaves them with a limited fanbase, but one that should embrace their style and dedication to hardcore. This album makes me feel like I'm getting my head slammed against a tiny brick wall.
