Guns are for Kids-It Takes a Nation of Morons to Hold Us Back
Fourth World Records
March 2008
Guns are for Kids have changed since their last EP. Their music is a lot more on the odd side of things this time around, using a lot of spaces and slower tempos. They use a lot of syncopation, especially between the guitars and drums, which makes for a fun listen, but there isn't as much energy as Too Much Red Not Enough Red. Although there is a lot going on, this album sounds tame.
Looking at it without comparing it to their last album (which I highly enjoyed), Guns are for Kids have an interesting take on songwriting that is tough to describe. They aren't straight forward about anything, and they are full of innovative ideas. They sound like they would fit in well on the Dischord roster, and it is obvious that these guys spend a lot of time on their craft. Its just different from what I was expecting, and that left me slightly disappointed.
