Anyone that has ever heard H2O before basically know what to expect from the band: catchy melodic hardcore punk songs. A New York City harsh attitude with sweet sugary melodies in the middle. Whether or not you're a fan of the band, you'd have a hard time making a case that their sound has changed much over the years. Nothing to Prove is no different. This is H2O doing what they do best: writing fun hardcore punk songs for people to both sing and dance along to.
Stealing the show, even though I think of H2O as a collection more than an individual, is vocalist Toby Morse. His voice hasn't changed in the slightest. Its still the same recognizable and comforting voice that people identified with all those years ago. He has an aggressive yet somewhat soothing voice that works so well for the band, bringing them different styles of fans. His lyrics aren't too deep, real life and straight to the point, but he has such an honest way about it, and his vocal style is out of this world.
Nothing to Prove is almost a throwback to their first album, complete with guest talking in between songs. This band hasn't changed much, even with a seven year absence in between albums, but they have written the best album of their careers. My only complaint is that it flies by much too fast, over before I'm ready to stop enjoying it.
