I Killed the Prom Queen-Music for the Recently Deceased
Metal Blade
November 14, 2006
I Killed the Prom Queen are a hell of a lot heavier than I anticipated. The album's opener, "Sharks in Your Mouth," is pretty much everything I could want in a metalcore song: speed, great riffs, blast beats, and a mixture of the high and deep voice. They do add unneeded singing in other tracks, which makes me cringe in anger, and the songs all start to follow the same formula which, while not that bad of a formula, makes the album a bit tedious to listen to. Music for the Recently Deceased has a lot of strong aspects to it, but they need to break out of the skin of their influences and move more towards their own sound. They have the chops to accomplish that, and they prove that with some highly enjoyable moments on here, but they need a bit more fine tuning.
