Lili Haydn-Place Between Places
Nettwerk
April 1, 2008
There are some albums that I listen to that I know I wouldn't have been able to tolerate ten seconds of years ago; albums full of songs that my mother would love, but its hard to only love punk rock and hold a blind ear to the rest of the music world altogether. Lili Haydn is one album that I'm glad was released recently instead of my more judgemental years. Haydn is one hell of a violinist (called "The Jimi Hendrix of violin" by the one and only George Clinton), and she has an amazing voice.
Describing these songs are a bit on the difficult side, as this isn't usually my style of music. One part classical, one part pop, one part rock, one part powerful, Haydn writes very strong songs that have a lot of depth to them. There are wonderful moments, mostly in the outstanding violin playing of Haydn. She knows how to structure a song (I'm sure playing with such greats as Clinton, Tom Petty, Robert Plant and Jimmy Paige have taught her a lot about being a solo artist), and pulls through with some enjoyable songs on here, an album that I'm sure my mother will enjoy as much as I do; a new way to bond.
