Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds-Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!

This album features a few different styles, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds excell at all of them. Cave's voice itself can carry even the boringest of songs on its shoulders, but he is blessed (along with every other album I've heard him sing on) with talented musicians that complement his wonderful swoon while still being interesting enough to stand on its own when needed.

Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! starts out erratically, with Cave reminding me of Jim Carroll as he almost spoken words himself across the first few songs, which are high energy impact numbers. As the album goes on, the songs grow into a more melodic stature, evolving from a sort of insanity to a more civilized nature. It kind of reminds me of a backwards history of man.

With intensity throughout, this album is over 50 minutes worth of great music. Cave and company run the listener through the gauntlet, but he does so at a structured pace, lulling said listener down with a fading keyboard.
