Nothington-Roads, Bridges and Ruins
BYO
October 6, 2009
This is an album tailor made for people that like to sing along to things. Each part has that quality and umph that just screams "sing with me." Roads, Bridges and Ruins is my first taste of Nothington, but it damn sure won't be my last, with their debut All In soon to be in my possession. They made a great first impression on me with a great blend of punk and rock and roll with plenty of fist pumping parts and, as I've mentioned, sing alongs.
There is a sincere quality to Nothington's music, which brings to mind bands like Gaslight Anthem, Against Me! and Strike Anywhere (their sound isn't similar to Strike Anywhere, but the quality and sincerity that they put into their songwriting is). Each note is full of energy, with driving drums leading the way for gritty guitars and gruffly clean vocals. Everything is jam packed with a high entertainment value, and the parts, especially the kicks, are tighter than an angry clenched fist. This is a craft, and Nothington excels at it.
