Polar Bear Club-Chasing Hamburg
Bridge 9
September 8, 2009
I'm really starting to like this band...a lot. I started off rather indifferent to them, wondering why there was such a buzz, but lately, I can't stop listening to their infectious songs. They do much more than pay homage to bands like Thrice and Hot Water Music. They keep everything melodic while having that epic sound to them, like if Modern Life is War went completely melodic and a little more rock and roll. Add some Small Brown Bike influence in there, and you've got a band that sounds similar to the above mentioned bands, but unique in their own way.
The main thing about Polar Bear Club is the way the songs grow with time. If you're like me and didn't think they were amazing at first, give them some time and watch this album explode like ecstasy in the ears. If they hit you like an 18 wheeler right off the bat, just sit back and listen as the enjoyment level expands ruthlessly. These songs are full of passion and meaning, and they are a lot of fun to listen to as well.
