From the looks of the album cover, full of hills, mountains and darkened rainbow colored lights, one might expect something similar to an acid trip. While there are some trippy moments that make you wonder if someone slipped something into your drink on this seven song EP, I'm more reminded of My Bloody Valentine, as Sea Sick use darkness, texture and space to create some haunting music. Even "xx," which is more of an upbeat dance number, has a horror show feel to it.
At the helm of all this is Jasmine Golestaneh, the guitarist and very talented lead singer. Her range is excellent and her voice makes the mood of the songs, adding her darkened, soul on fire wail to add undaunting emotion. Whether the music behind her is pounding away with multitudes of energy or keeping things steady and even, her voice takes the feel to that of walking into a dark room: the excited butterflies that won't go away.
This is a creative three piece that is a lot of fun to listen to. Even though their sound shouts "we're New York artists," they're different from the rest of that pack. They are more intense and their songs are more exciting.
