Set Off-Just Please Stop Crying
Felony Records
2008
There's not much better than a really fast melodic punk band, and Set Off are just that. These Californian punks would fit right in with the Fat roster, sounding like a mixture between Lagwagon and A Wilhelm Scream. The drums, which are super tight and talented, courtesy of Eric Kamm, are my favorite part of the album, as he is always able to keep things interesting and plays the style so well that its hard not to sit back and enjoy his drumming. All of the music is spot on with the style, featuring a good amount of parts (they call themselves "progressive punk" on their Myspace, which I would be inclined to agree with) and melodic vocals by Nino De La Rosa, which feature many sing along parts and a voice that you can just get lost in.
I always look for bands that will instantly blow me away, giving me a new found excitement and something I'll constantly look forward to listening to. Set Off, with their throwback fast melodic punk, do just that, and then some.
