Alicia Vikander Jumps Into Action As Lara Croft In First 'Tomb Raider' Set Photos

To date, Alicia Vikander‘s excursions into mainstream roles haven’t fared so well. “The Seventh Son” was a disaster, I already forgot she was in “Jason Bourne,” and no one went to see “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” But the actress is still trying to crack that nut, and she’ll give the mainstream another chance by leading “Tomb Raider,” and the first set photos (via Collider) provide a peek at Vikander in action.

Roar Uthaug is directing the video game reboot, with the movie presenting a personal relationship at the core of the story. “…this is kind of what we call a ‘back to the roots story.’ This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and I think that’s what Alicia found so interesting about it,” producer Graham King told HeyUGuys last fall. “I think the storytelling is really good and i think we’ve got the right crew and a great director and I think it’s going to be really fun making a film like this.”

Well, we’ll find out in a year how it all turns out. “Tomb Raider” opens on March 16, 2018.
