At this year’s D23 conference, all eyes are on “Star Wars.” Since “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was released in 2015, the hype has grown bigger and bigger with each new film in the series. This year marks the release of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” and instead of just giving us a standard trailer, Disney has unveiled behind the scenes look at the new episode in the Skywalker Saga.
You don’t gain much knowledge about the plot of the film based on the behind the scenes footage, but what you see is the little hints and teases that drive fans crazy. And tantalizingly, director Rian Johnson says he hopes the film is a “little shocking.” In fact, that appears to be the theme of the clip, from Mark Hamill on down, suggesting ‘The Last Jedi’ could be a big game-changer in the way the story affects the entire “Star Wars” universe.
Brief shots of aliens you have never seen before, interviews with cast and crew that you know and love, and just a little bit of mystery are what Disney chose to show, and it all looks great. Honestly, they already have everyone’s money, so they could show just about anything related to ‘The Last Jedi’ and people would lose their minds. So, these little extra bits of content are just icing on the cake.
Lately, it seems as if all the news surrounding the “Star Wars” franchise has been controversial. With the ‘Untitled Han Solo Film’ getting tons of headlines due to the recent behind-the-camera shuffle, its nice to see the much more happy and exciting news come back to the series. From everything we’ve seen and heard so far from the filmmakers involved in ‘The Last Jedi,’ it was one big happy family during the film’s production. Of course, they’d be silly to say otherwise, but ignorance is bliss, so let’s choose to believe them, okay?
As if you needed to know, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will be unleashed on the world December 15th.
