First off, the fast rising Bradford Young (“Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” “Selma,” “Arrival“) will be behind the camera for Phil Lord and Chris Miller‘s upcoming Han Solo spinoff movie. Of course, there are no real details about that film yet except that it will be led by Alden Ehrenreich but it’s a major career move for Young. Clearly he’s been impressing all the right people, and certainly as audiences will soon see, he can do sci-fi no problem, bringing a lovely realism to Denis Villeneuve‘s upcoming sci-fi flick, will also working with lots of special effects with no problem. We can’t wait to see what he does in the world of “Star Wars.”

Meanwhile, Alfonso Cuaron is getting back together with his lenser on “Children Of Men” and “Gravity,” Emmanuel Lubezki, to help him shoot his new film. The director is pivoting away from big genre films, to write and direct a currently untitled film about a middle-class Mexico City family in the 1970s. Production begins this fall, and we’re sure that at the very least, it’s going to look beautiful.

The Han Solo flick arrives on May 25, 2018 and while there’s no date yet for Cuaron’s film, we’re hoping to see it before 2017 is through. [The Film Stage]
