FOURTH QUARTER REVIEW (October-December)

These albums mark the final quarter of this year. Hopefully, it was a successful year that brought a lot of people a lot of joy. My Year End Review should be hanging out in the "Articles" section. These albums represent albums released between October 1 and December 31.

10. Ed Gein-Judas Goats and Diesal Easters: Granted, I haven't reviewed this album as of "press time" (I'm laying in my bed writing this and watching Law and Order; there's no such thing as "press time" in webzine world), but I have been enjoying it a lot lately. Its so heavy and their cover of Nirvana's "Breed" is outstanding. (Metal Blade)

9. Hanner-No Guts, No Gravy: Female fronted folk rock that is quite beautiful to listen to. This is very good for a relaxing evening. (Unsound)

8. Ringworm-Justice Replaced by Revenge: These tough hardcore guys are back with an album that ranks right up there with The Promise; and thats saying something. (Victory)

7. The Tossers-The Valley of the Shadow of Death: The Tossers play great Irish punk rock that should turn some heads with this release. (Victory)

6. Dark Funeral-Attera Totus Sanctus: Such melodic and beautiful, catchy music contrasted with some ear piercingly evil vocals. This is Black Metal at its best. (Candlelight)

5. Propagandhi-Potemkin City Limits-Granted, this is my least favorite of Propagandhi's albums, but it is still an incredible piece of music. Propagandhi have gotten angrier over the years, and this is one angry son of a bitch that is not afraid to toss a dis at its own record label. (Fat)

4. With Honor-This is Our Revenge: When one of my favorite hardcore bands starts taking influences from bands like Ignite and Strike Anywhere, great stuff is about to follow. "Like Trumpets" is one of my favorite songs of this past year. (Victory)

3. Paulson-All At Once: All around great music from a band that I had all but forgotten about until this release came out. The drumming is incredible and is able to make this band sound very full. (One Day Saviour)

2. <The Fire Still Burns-Keeping Hope Alive: Wonderful melodic hardcore that not enough bands are playing these days. Though this is only an EP, I am highly impressed with their talent. (Blackout)

1. Blacklisted-The Beat Goes On: Blacklisted play American Nightmare style hardcore that makes me no longer miss American Nightmare. Deathwish has released some great hardcore albums this year, and Blacklisted is at the top of the heap. (Deathwish Inc.)

Some very special props go to Fat Wreck Chords for releasing the Protect Comp, which featured some great songs by bands like NOFX, The Falcon, Tim Barry, Hot Cross, Smoke or Fire; hell, the whole comp is pretty great. Plus, it features Against Me!'s version of a Bob Dylan written tune called "Wagon Wheel" that I constantly listen to.

Other props go to Opeth for releasing Ghost Reveries, 1349 for releasing Hellfire, and 3 for their rerelease of Wake Pig, which would be in the Top Ten had it not been previously released.
