2005 Quarterly Review

2005 is 3/4 done with, and many great albums have been released. Everything is going by so fast that it might be good for people to take notice of their surroundings.

TOP 10 ALBUMS FROM QUARTER THREE

10. Every Time I Die-Gutter Phenomenon: this is the first Every Time I Die album that I've actually enjoyed. A lot of people have said that its a step down, but I love the way they fuse rock and roll and hardcore together. Ferret

9. Withered-Memento Mori: Withered mix a lot of what would be considered heavy musical styles together to create a heavy as all shit monster.
Lifeforce

8. Chiodis-All's Well that Ends Well: Chiodis sound like Thursday but with more piano. I thought Craig Owen's high pitched voice would annoy me, but the emotion that he puts into each song turned out to be my favorite part of this band. Equal Vision

7. Killing the Dream-In Place Apart: I was in love with this album within the first few seconds. It brings back memories of watching American Nightmare. Deathwish Inc.

6. Limbeck-Let Me Come Home: Put the Get Up Kids and Lucero in a blender and you get Limbeck. Enough said. Doghouse

5. Boys Night Out-Trainwreck: This is a band that changed styles from fun loving screamo band to emotional rock band with Brand New influences. Some people don't like change, but I don't mind it as long as it doesn't suck. Boys Night Out changed, but they didn't suck. The addition of Kara Dupuy on keyboards and vocals was a very smart move for this band. Ferret

4. The Heavenly States-Black Comet: This is an album that grew on me with time. The Heavenly States remind me of Hot Water Music, but with non rock traditional instrumentation. These guys are very worthy of your time. Baria

3. A Wilhelm Scream-Ruiner: Melodic punk is a great form of music, and A Wilhelm Scream play it as well as their 90s counterparts play it. I was recently wearing a shirt of theirs at a show that some of the guys were at (a guy from Haste the Day told me that). One of the guys complimented the shirt and was on his way. I thought it was really cool that he didn't make a big deal of who he was. Nitro

2. Between the Buried and Me-Alaska: There are enough guitar parts on here to make you crap yourself. A friend of mine who listens to country commented that these guys are a little too good at their instruments, but I think they use their talents to write some fucking insane music. Victory

1. Against Me!-Searching for a Former Clarity: Sincere bands always write the best music, and I don't think you can get much more sincere than Against Me!. These guys again tweaked their style-this time they play a little slower while still rocking the fuck out-and again it sounds amazing. Fat

Here are some other albums that came out this quarter that are worth your time and money: A Perfect Murder-Strength Through Vengence; Cartel-Chroma; Cave In-Pefect Pitch Black; Minus the Bear-Menos El Oso; Silverstein-Discovering the Waterfront; and Versus the Mirror.
