Barry Levinson To Be Honored At 2018 Karlovy Vary Film Festival

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival announced on Wednesday that Oscar-winner Barry Levinson will receive the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema at the 2018 edition of the festival which begins next month.

Levinson is best known for “Rain Main” which won Best Picture as well as Best Director for Levinson specifically in 1989. This is the 30th anniversary of its release. It’s also the 20th anniversary of the release of Levinson’s underrated “Wag the Dog” which earned two Oscar nominations. The 76-year-old filmmaker will introduce screenings of both films as well as “Paterno” which debuted on HBO just a few weeks ago.

A six-time Oscar nominee, Levinson has had a storied career with films such as “Diner,” “Avalon,” “Bugsy,” “Good Morning Vietnam” and “The Natural” to his credit. He’s recently spent a good deal of time helming TV movies for home box office including “You Don’t Know Jack,” “The Wizard of Lies” and the aforementioned “Paterno.”

Recent honorees at KarlovyVary including Casey Affleck, Charlie Kaufman, Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich, among others. The festival is expected to announce two other recipients in the weeks to come.

The 2018 edition of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival runs from June 29 – July 7.
