Benicio Del Toro Goes Gangster For 'The Corporation'

SicarioWhile he’s never really gone away, and is always popping up turn out one great performance after another, it feels like we’re in the midst of a Benicio Del Toro renaissance or golden age for the actor. Last year he brought his incredible presence to Denis Villeneuve‘s "Sicario," he’s part of two giant movie franchises with Marvel and "Star Wars," and now he’s bringing his swagger to a highly sought-after gangland tale.

Paramount Pictures and Leonardo DiCapario‘s Appian Way have snapped up the rights to the brewing book "The Corporation: An Epic Story of the Cuban American Underworld" by TJ English. Del Toro will take the role of Jose Miguel Battle Sr., whose remarkable life saw him as serve under Fulgencio Batista, come to the United States and train under the CIA, save his fellow men during the Bay of Pigs, and then become The Godfather of the Cuban underworld. Sounds like terrific stuff for Del Toro to dive into.

No word yet on a screenwriter or director, but no doubt some top-shelf talent will be sought out. At any rate, let’s hope this one doesn’t stay kicking around in development for too long. [Deadline]
