Bryan Singer Says Upcoming Marvel Series 'Legion' Will "Relate To Future X-Men Movies"

What’s next for the future of X-Men at 20th Century Fox? That’s the multi-million-dollar question that doesn’t quite have an answer at the moment. Following this summer’s “X-Men: Apocalypse,” the only related flicks on deck are “Wolverine 3” and “Deadpool 2,” with “The New Mutants” in development and “Gambit” somewhere in there as well. However, it looks like for clues on where the X-Men universe is headed next, you might want to turn your eyes to TV.

Next year, FX will unleash their first Marvel series with “Legion” starring Dan Stevens, with the story revolving around David Haller, the son of Charles Xavier and Gabrielle Haller. That’s certainly some interesting lineage, and according to longtime franchise steward Bryan Singer, who took the stage at the Edinburgh Television Festival, “Legion” and another unnamed series “will relate to future X-Men movies.”

How they connect is yet to be seen, but it doesn’t seem like it’ll be a particularly strong narrative thread, with Singer adding that “Legion” is “part of the X-Men universe, but when you watched it, you wouldn’t have to label it, it could exist completely on its own.” It sounds not unlike Marvel’s approach to their TV shows on Netflix and ABC, which take place in the same Marvel Cinematic Universe as the movies, but with no strong crossover (yet), so you can enjoy them as standalone shows.
