Cannes: 3 Clips From From Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne's 'The Unknown Girl'

This year, the Cannes Film Festival is saving some of their big movies for the final days, with new efforts from Nicolas Winding Refn, Sean Penn, Cristian Mungiu, and Paul Verhoeven placed at the back end of the schedule. And even festival darlings Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne won’t have their latest “The Unknown Girl” screen until tomorrow, but we get our first taste today.

Adèle Haenel leads the movie, with supporting turns from Dardennes regulars Fabrizio Rongione and Olivier Gourmet, along with Thomas Doret (the kid from “The Kid With A Bike“), in the story that follows Jenny, a doctor who feels guilty after a young woman she refused to see winds up dead a few days later, leading her on a journey to find out who the girl really was. Here’s the official synopsis:

One evening, after closing her practice for the day, Jenny, a young doctor, hears the doorbell ring but doesn’t answer it. The next day, the police inform her that an unidentified young woman has been found dead close by.

We can’t wait to hear the verdict on this one, but from the brief footage, it looks like another success from the duo. The film will be released in the U.S. by Sundance Selects, but no date has been set. Watch one clip above, and two more below, and check out some new images as well. (The final clip was not provided with English subtitles).
