Carrie Coon Joins Steve McQueen’s ‘Widows’

Carrie Coon has made quite a name for herself on the small screen recently. Her roles in “Fargo” and “The Leftovers” are putting her in the Emmy discussion. Now, it seems, she’s ready to make that transition to the big screen, and she’s signed up for her next big film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Coon will soon begin production on “Widows.”

“Widows” is based on the 1980’s British TV series about a group of armed robbers who are killed during a heist attempt. After this incident, their widows decide to take over for their husbands and finish the job. Coon is set to play the contrarian widow, who isn’t ready to join up with the others. The film will be directed by Steve McQueen, and features an all-star cast including Viola Davis, Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Rodriguez, Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, and Daniel Kaluuya.

Coon will begin work on “Widows” after she wraps her most recent high profile job on Steven Spielberg’s “The Papers.” That film, starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, is set to be released later this year, just in time for awards contention.

With “The Papers” and now “Widows,” Coon will definitely be making a name for herself over the next 12 months. She previously made her film debut in David Fincher’sGone Girl,” so now she can add Spielberg and McQueen to her growing list of directors she’s worked for. That’s definitely not a bad way to launch your career in film. [THR]
