Four years ago, a low-budget movie starring a bunch of actors you never of called "Skyline" opened in theaters nationwide, in fourth place at the box office. The alien invasion yarn eventually earned $66 million worldwide on a $10 million budget, which isn’t bad, but hardly screams that a sequel needs to be made. Frankly, we forgot it even existed, but here we are, and a followup is happening for some reason.
Frank Grillo—who after "The Purge: Anarchy" seems to be filling a niche of being the leading man in sequels to cheapo "hits"—will star in "Beyond Skyline." Whoa, dude. Liam O’Donnell who wrote the original movie, penned the script and will direct too. The story follows "a detective who fights to free his son from a terrifying alien warship." Good lord. Noomi Rapace has joined "The Price." Siofra Campbell wrote the script and will direct the movie about "a woman who learns she can only recover her kidnapped son if she provides a blonde girl of the same age in exchange." Well, that’s pretty twisted. Production begins in February. [Screen Daily]
Kevin Bacon is stepping into the "Jungle." The adaptation of Yossi Ghinsberg‘s memoir will be directed by Greg Mclean ("Wolf Creek") and follows "an enthusiastic adventurer who headed into the Amazon jungle with two friends and a guide with a mysterious past. Their journey turned into a terrifying psychological ordeal and fight for survival as the darkest elements of human nature and the wilderness tested their endurance." If the story sounds familiar, it has already been turned into an episode of "I Shouldn’t Be Alive" on Discovery Channel. [Deadline]
