Chris Pratt Gives 'Suicide Squad' Some Critical Tips; Reported 'Avengers 4' Title Debunked

Only yesterday, we learned that one of the reasons that the title for the fourth “Avengers” movie in 2019 hasn’t been revealed yet, despite the film being two years away, is that Kevin Feige considers it to be something of a spoiler for future “Avengers” movies. Well, nobody gave the memo to Zoe Saldana, who even before the day was out might have managed to spill the beans on that secret title. But let’s put those spoilers down the page for a minute and pivot to something potentially a little bit more controversial. Or at least, it might end up inadvertently causing further beef in the already embattled DC/Marvel war of words between the more militant fans.

Chris Pratt was asked by io9 about the DC movies, and unlike the very binary sides of fandom, was mostly positive about them, but did have one bit of criticism about “Suicide Squad.” “I think they’re really cool and I’m not a real tough critic on those movies. But one of the flaws might have been they were introducing too many characters in ‘Suicide Squad.’ They spent 10 minutes telling us why should we care about these characters, rather than creating trilogies for each character and convincing us to care about the characters.” A fair criticism, and very nice of him to be so diplomatic about those absolute shit-shows. Anyway, “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2” opens next Friday, and you can watch a new featurette for the movie below.

UPDATE: James Gunn says “It’s not the title,” Gunn told Yahoo. “My guess is that Zoe just misspoke. I’ll talk to Zoe today, but I would imagine that is just Zoe misspeaking and saying ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ instead of ‘Infinity War’.”

OK, back to spoiler-ville.

*** SPOILERS ***Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2” premiered in London last night, and Saldana, talking to BBC reporter Lizo Mzimba on the red carpet, was asked about ‘Infinity War.’ She replied: “We’re in the middle of it, I think that the Guardians just shot their part when it comes to Infinity War, like the first part. And we all have to go back for Gauntlet later this year.”

Gauntlet, eh? Multiple sites, including Slashfilm, have extrapolated from this, entirely fairly, that “Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet” is therefore likely the title of the movie. For the uninitiated, the Gauntlet is the gold glove-type thing (glimpsed in post-credit sequences of other Marvel movies) that Thanos holds, that, if it is combined with the Infinity Stones, will enable him to control reality itself.

If, as many have guessed, ‘Infinity War’ sees Thanos traveling the universe to grab the various Infinity Stones (located in places varying from in the control of the Nova Corp to being in the middle of Paul Bettany‘s forehead), ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ would seem to suggest that the MCU’s heroes fail in their quest to stop him, which I guess is a spoiler of sorts, though nothing of the level of what we were expecting, something like “Avengers: Groot Am A Ghost All Along.” Or it’s possible that this is clever misinformation, or simply her dropping a casual working title for the project. ***END SPOILERS***
