Colin Trevorrow Says 'Jurassic World 3' Will Not Include Dinosaurs Terrorizing Cities

When the first “Jurassic World” was announced, many assumed it would be the introduction of the dinosaurs from the original films to, you know, the world. What it ended up being is “Jurassic Park…Again.” Then when “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” was released earlier this year, fans thought that this was finally the time that dinosaurs begin to interact with the world. But, instead, what fans got was “Jurassic Mansion.” And now, with “Jurassic World 3” on the horizon, and the very end of ‘Fallen Kingdom’ showing that dinosaurs were finally interacting with the world, it wouldn’t be crazy to deduce that this is the film that shows dinosaurs in the city. However, you’d be wrong…again.

In a new interview over at Jurassic Outpost, writer-director Colin Trevorrow, who gave us the first “Jurassic World” talks about what we might expect in his upcoming sequel. When asked if fans would finally see velociraptors and the T-rex running wild through the city streets, Trevorrow was quick to say no and provide an idea of what we might expect in the threequel.

He said:

“I just have no idea what would motivate dinosaurs to terrorize a city. They can’t organize. Right now we’ve got lethal predators in wild areas surrounding cities all over the world. They don’t go pack hunting for humans in urban areas. The world I get excited about is the one where it’s possible that a dinosaur might run out in front of your car on a foggy backroad, or invade your campground looking for food. A world where dinosaur interaction is unlikely but possible—the same way we watch out for bears or sharks. We hunt animals, we traffic them, we herd them, we breed them, we invade their territory and pay the price, but we don’t go to war with them. If that was the case, we’d have lost that war a long time ago.”

While the idea of a dinosaur version of “Jaws” sounds interesting, where these animals lurk in the shadows, waiting to strike, that’s not exactly what was promised at the very end of ‘Fallen Kingdom.’ It’s also not exactly what the title “Jurassic World” would imply, either.

Does that mean the third film in the trilogy is destined to fail? No, not at all. There’s always the chance that the story can be a welcome surprise and impress fans. However, depending on the type of action shown, there is also a chance that people could be let down with yet another small-scale dinosaur film.

We’ll just have to wait and see, as “Jurassic World 3” hits theaters June 11, 2021.
