Daniel Craig Says There Have Been "No Conversations" About The Next James Bond, Calls It "The Best Job In The World"

It was just over a year ago when Daniel Craig was asked whether or not he’d be up for another outing as James Bond, and he answered quite colorfully, “I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists.” Since then, talk has stormed around a possible replacement for the actor to play 007, and Craig has remained committed to signing up for anything else, currently shooting Steven Soderbergh‘s “Logan Lucky,” and slated for twenty episodes of Todd Field‘s “Purity” next year. However, stopping by the New York Film Festival, Craig was a bit more relaxed about James Bond, and explained why he had such an explosive reaction last year when asked about another movie as the world’s most famous spy.

“It was the day after filming [stopped on ‘Spectre‘]. I’d been away from home for a year,” the actor said. And fair enough. By many accounts, the “Spectre” shoot was tough, and working against the clock to make the release date. So it’s understandable if Craig was exhausted, frazzled, and wanted nothing at all to do with 007 in that moment. And in fact, he seems much warmer to the series now that time has passed.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’ve got the best job in the world. I’ll keep doing it as long as I still get a kick out of it,” he said, adding: “If I were to stop doing it, I would miss it terribly.”

So, if you placed a bet with some UK bookies on Idris Elba taking over the role, you might want to say goodbye to that money, since not only does Craig seem keen again, the producers really want him back too. It looks like the healthiest wager right now will be on Craig once again getting the tuxedo out of the closet, even though the actor does say he’s had “no conversations” about it. Yet. [Vulture]
