While Daniel Craig‘s dismissive attitude to the franchise that made his face globally recognized has been a big part of the James Bond narrative lately, there was a time when he seemed a bit more enthusiastic about the gig. And while this great story from filmmaker and film critic Charlie Lyne hasn’t been officially confirmed (as far as these things can be), it’s too good to ignore, and too weird to be made up out of whole cloth.

So, the story goes that while on a day off from shooting “Skyfall,” Daniel Craig bought himself a pair of leather gloves and brought them to set the next day, figuring it would be something James Bond would wear. Director Sam Mendes said sure, they shot the film’s opening casino scene, and that was that, until post-production arrived and that one decision wound up costing the movie millions of dollars in bad CGI.
