Danny Boyle Wins The Top DGA Prize

DGA’s are being announced as we speak. We’re betting on Danny Boyle and yup, he took it alright. Man, the “Slumdog Millionaire” domination continues. Will this repeat at Oscar? It’s very likely.

This quote from the AP is priceless: “I should start by curiously thanking Warner Bros. for actually having the grace to do the right thing, when I think it would have been a lot easier to do the wrong thing, and pass the film on to Fox Searchlight, who are an extraordinary bunch of people,” Boyle said.

Translation: You’ll remember that Warner Bros. thought this film had zero mainstream potential, and sold it off to Fox Searchlight, but they easily could have buried it in a straight to DVD release (which they considered). WB — too busy kicking themselves for letting go what now looks like the 2008 Best Picture Oscar winner and a very profitable film — could not be reached for comment. 😉

“Waltz With Bashir” has already won the Best Documentary prize at the Directors Guild Award (DGA) ceremonies, but the film is only up for Best Foreign Film and not best doc at the Oscars, but this is further proof that Ari Folman’s great animated, reflective documentary look at the ’83 Beirut massacre is going to top that foreign category.

“The Office” took the top TV honor and our beloved Paul Feig (“Freaks & Geeks,” “Arrested Development,” “Undeclared”) also took a TV directing award for his work on the show. Here’s a list of all the winners.
