David Oyelowo And Ray Fisher Circling Ang Lee's 3D Thrilla In Manila Movie

CaptiveAng Lee embraced 3D with "Life Of Pi," won a Best Director Oscar for his efforts, and hasn’t looked back. His upcoming film, "Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk," was shot in 120fps 3D, so three dimensions clearly isn’t just a passing fancy. Lee’s next picture is starting to come together, and you’ll also need those clunky glasses to watch it. Even more, it has a very talented actor eyeballing one of the leads.

A couple years back, Lee was linked to a movie based on Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali‘s iconic "Thrilla In Manila" boxing match, and after falling apart at Universal, it’s back to life with production company Studio 8. David Oyelowo is eyeballing the role of the bout’s loser, Joe Frazier, and he’s the director’s top choice for the part, though a formal offer still has to be made. Meanwhile, Ray Fisher is reportedly the frontrunner to play Ali.

There’s also no word on when production might begin, but ‘Lynn’ is in post, and Lee is already scouting locations for ‘Thrilla,’ so my guess is that if all the pieces come together fast, it could wind up rolling sometime in the New Year. [Deadline/Variety/The Wrap]
