'Deadpool' Creator Rob Liefeld's 'Extreme Universe' Comic Series To Become Extreme Film Universe

With “Deadpool” becoming the shining star in the FoxX-Men” film universe, the character’s creator Rob Liefeld has been shopping around some of his other creations. Now, it seems, he has found a home for his “Extreme Universe” series of comics.

Writer/Producer Akiva Goldsman, producer Graham King, and Fundamental Films are collaborating to bring Liefeld’s series of ‘Extreme’ comics to life. They plan to set up a writer’s room to help brainstorm the proper way to launch this shared universe, a la the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Goldsman, most recently, has spearheaded a similar writer’s room for the ever expanding “Transformers” film series.

The “Extreme” brand was the brainchild of Image Comics co-founder Rob Liefeld. Consisting of relatively obscure characters like Supreme, Glory, Badrock, Bloodstrike, and the team known as Youngblood, the comics found success in the mid-90s. While not household names, many of the characters are considered as analogues to other characters, like with Supreme and Superman. As their popularity faded, the comics went through a variety of changes, and today, none are still being published. However, with Marvel making billions of dollars, Liefeld sees now as the perfect time to dust them off and share them with the world once again.

The “Extreme Universe” will sure have a lot of superhero competition ahead. Along with Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, Fox’s X-Men Universe, and Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe, Sony had previously announced they’re hoping to launch their own shared superhero universe based on Valiant Comics properties. [THR]
