Details Emerge About Leonardo Di Caprio's Role In Tarantino's Film

The new movie from Quentin Tarantino is over 18 months away, which means from now at least until cameras roll later this year, it’s going to be a slow drip of information about the film. But here is what we know so far.

Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to star in the movie, which is set in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969, and centers on a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and is looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick—who’s also his stunt double—is looking for the same thing. Meanwhile, the horrific murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers shadows the main narrative. DiCaprio is playing that washed up actor, with Margot Robbie expected to sign up as Sharon Tate, and both Tom Cruise and Al Pacino eyed for roles. But as always, there’s more….

Deadline has revealed fresh details about DiCaprio’s part, and given Tarantino’s knack for world-building, the character has quite a bit of backstory. Here’s what Mike Fleming at the trade had to say:

I initially called him an aging actor, when I raced to break the story. What he plays, more specifically, is an actor who had his own Western show, Bounty Law, that ran on the air from 1958 to 1963. His attempt to transition to movies didn’t work out and in 1969 — the film is set at the height of hippy Hollywood movement– he’s guesting on other people’s shows while contemplating going to Italy which has become a hotbed for low-budget Westerns.

It’s an interesting texture to the film, that is said to have a “Pulp Fiction” like spread and sprawl. We can’t wait to find out more about the movie which opens on August 9, 2019.
