Director J.A. Bayona Says ‘Jurassic World 2’ Will Have More Of A Direct Connection To ‘Jurassic Park’

When “Jurassic World” was released last summer, audiences accepted the film with open arms to the tune of $1.67 billion worldwide. With a plot and certain scenes that felt lifted directly from the 1993 classic “Jurassic Park,” the film feels like nostalgia turned up to 11. Well, in a recent interview, J.A. Bayona, the director of the upcoming “Jurassic World 2,” wants everyone to know that they intend for the sequel to be even more closely connected to the original.

“It’s very interesting. It’s always tricky, but you need to find a balance in what people expect to find, and the new stuff you’re bringing to the story. And I think the story is looking for a connection between ‘Jurassic World’ and ‘Jurassic Park’ – more than what ‘Jurassic World’ did,” said Bayona in an interview with Cinema Blend.

Does this mean we’re going back to yet another park? Will there be another set of siblings trying to navigate the park? Will we see a scene of a new dinosaur roar while the banner slowly falls? Replicating these plot points, and several others, was a huge part of what made everyone love ‘World.’ Maybe Universal is hoping that if they do more of the same, they can match that big box office number. But then again, we’ve also heard the next movie will be scarier, and have some deeper issues as part of the story too.

Filming for “Jurassic World 2” is set to begin in March 2017, with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard back to reprise their roles. As previously mentioned, J.A. Bayona has signed on to direct the sequel, taking over for Colin Trevorrow, who signed on to direct “Star Wars: Episode IX.”

“Jurassic World 2” will be released in June 8, 2018. Will this be the one where we finally get the raptors with lasers on their heads? We will soon find out!
