'The Invisible War' Team Making Docu About Sexual Abuse In Hollywood

Hollywood sure loves movies about movies, but when it comes to documentaries exposing their darkest secrets, the industry is much more reserved. Three years ago, Amy Berg directed “An Open Secret,” which explored the sexual abuse of teenage boys by major players in the movie business, and the documentary was barely released, landing in the hands a tiny distributor with limited reach. In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, the producer Gabe Hoffman made the film available for free on Vimeo for a week. Now, a new film is in the works, which will take another look behind the curtain of Hollywood, from two filmmakers who aren’t afraid of controversy, and should likely have Hollywood on alert.

Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering have revealed they have a documentary about sexual abuse in Hollywood in development. The project has apparently been in the works for years, but only now are people willing to go on the record about their experiences. The movie will explore the “behavior of predatory perpetrators such as Harvey Weinstein and others,” and the system that “enables and protects them.”

Dick and Ziering have collaborated on multiple films, but most notably, “The Hunting Ground” about the rape crisis on U.S. college campuses, and “The Invisible War,” about the same issue, but inside the U.S. military. The filmmakers certainly know this territory, and I’d imagine there might be a few people concerned about what they will expose.

No word yet on when it might be released, but it’ll certainly be one many will be paying attention to. [AP]
