Doug Liman To Direct Tom Cruise's Action Movie Filmed In Space

A few weeks ago, it was revealed that Tom Cruise was interested in becoming the first man to shoot a feature film in outer space. Not much was known about the film at the time, other than the actor was working with Elon Musk, the man behind Space X, to make it happen. Well, now we know who Cruise has brought on to direct his incredibly ambitious space film.

According to Deadline, Cruise is teaming with Doug Liman to help bring this untitled space action film to life. Liman is probably best known as the man behind films such as “The Bourne Identity,” “Swingers,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” and “Edge of Tomorrow.” The latter of which saw the filmmaker team up with Cruise in a sci-fi action film. Liman has also worked with Cruise, most recently, on the film, “American Made.”

The report also claims that Liman has written the first draft of the screenplay already and both he and Cruise are hoping to get this film in production sooner rather than later. Of course, “soon” is a relative term, as Cruise first has to finish filming two “Mission: Impossible” films, which are now delayed due to COVID-19, with filming not expected to restart until late summer. As for Liman, he’s still working on the long-delayed “Chaos Walking,” which has reportedly been a bit of a problem with multiple delays in the post-production process and at least one filmmaker being brought in to help shape the final product.

All that being said, the “Tom Cruise In Space” movie seems to be way more than just a fun idea and is a project that is likely going to get produced pretty quickly.
