Exclusive: Robert Pattinson Talks The Tragedy Of Pontius Pilate In Clip From ‘The Childhood Of A Leader’

For his feature length directorial debut, Brady Corbet — who already showed himself to be a potent storyteller, writing “Simon Killer” and “The Sleepwalker” — hasn’t held back on the ambition with “The Childhood Of A Leader.” The film’s bold approach certainly captured the attention of many, with the picture earning Best Debut and Best Director prizes at Venice Horizons last year. And today we’re happy to share with you an exclusive look at the intriguing picture that serves up a fascinating premise.

With a cast featuring Robert Pattinson, Stacy Martin and Bérénice Bejo, the focus is actually on Tom Sweet, who plays Prescott, a young child in pre-World War I France who is a bit of a tiny terror, with his behavior hinting at a more monstrous, sociopathic adult life ahead. And in this scene from the film, family friend Charles Marker, played by Pattinson, expounds on the tragedy of Pontius Pilate, and the courage that people lack in order to be good. It’s an interesting slice of a film that seems to look directly at the warring natures of good and evil.

Featuring a score by the great Scott Walker, “The Childhood Of A Leader” opens in theaters and on VoD on July 22nd.
