Exclusive: Get Your 'Kicks' In New Clip From The Vibrant Urban Drama

We haven’t had time to write our review of Justin Tipping’s “Kicks” yet, but trust us when we say the hip hop-esque drama is one of the best directorial debuts of the year. But it’s also a lyrical, dreamy, and complicated look at inner city violence and what it means to be a man. It’s capital T terrific and centers on a group of Bay Area teenagers — Jahking Guillory, Christopher Jordan Wallace (“Notorious”), and Christopher Meyer (“Wayward Pines“) who go on a misguided odyssey to recover a pair of stolen Nike’s that are precious to the lead character. Here’s the official synopsis:

In Justin Tipping’s feature debut Kicks, nothing is as simple as it seems. Fifteen-year-old Brandon longs for a pair of the freshest sneakers that money can buy; assuming that merely having them on his feet will help him escape the reality of being poor, neglected by the opposite sex and picked on by everyone — even his best friends. Working hard to get them, he soon finds that the titular shoes have instead made him a target after they are promptly snatched by local hood, Flaco. Seemingly the embodiment of menace, Flaco harbors complexities of his own that will be revealed when Brandon goes on a mission to retrieve his stolen sneakers with his two best friends in tow.

All three of the main kids in this movie are going to be poised for bigger things so they’re all actors to watch. But Tipping is maybe the MVP who directs the hell out of this affecting drama. Focus World releases “Kicks” today, September 9th. Check out an exclusive clip from the film below, plus three additional clips from the movie and let us know what you think. We highly recommend the movie.
