Find Your Courage In The New Trailer For Baz Luhrmann's Netflix Series 'The Get Down'

I won’t mention that other network show about the music scene in New York City that was canceled this year, but needless to say, Netflix now has the opportunity to beat their competition in a major way with the upcoming “The Get Down.” It’s their own auteur-guided look at the rough and tumble world of NYC in the ’70s, and the music that grew out of it, and so far, it looks like it has “Vinyl” beat (oops, I wasn’t supposed to say that).

From the mind of Baz Luhrmann, the show stars Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Herizen Guardiola, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jaden Smith, Skylan Brooks, Tremaine Brown Jr., Mamoudou Athie, Jimmy Smits and Giancarlo Esposito in the tale set in New York  in 1977, that chronicles the rise of hip-hop and the last days of disco — told through the lives, music, art and dance of the South Bronx kids who would change the world forever.

Part One of “The Get Down” gets down to groove on August 12th.
