You probably know the name Dan Fogelman. He’s the Hollywood screenwriter behind such animated movies as "Cars," "Bolt," and "Tangled," but also family comedies like "Fred Claus," "Crazy, Stupid, Love," and “The Guilt Trip.” Like many screenwriters before him, Fogelman has made the leap to filmmaking. Originally titled “Imagine,” now known as “Danny Collins,” Fogelman’s directorial debut follows an aging rock star who decides to change his life when he discovers a 40-year-old letter written to him by John Lennon.
Al Pacino plays the titular Danny Collins, and the movie also stars Jennifer Garner, Annette Bening, Bobby Cannavale, and Christopher Plummer. Here’s the official synopsis:
Al Pacino stars as aging 1970s rocker Danny Collins, who can’t give up his hard-living ways. But when his manager (Christopher Plummer) uncovers a 40 year-old undelivered letter written to him by John Lennon, he decides to change course and embarks on a heartfelt journey to rediscover his family, find true love and begin a second act.
Film Music Reporter (via COS) also brings the news that rocker Ryan Adams is going to co-score the movie with composer Theodore Shapiro. The two co-wrote “Stay Alive” for “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” soundtrack (performed by José González in the movie).
According to their website, Bleecker Street Films will release the movie on an undetermined 2015 date. The first trailer for the film will be online next week and we should note the film boasts the inclusion of John Lennon songs too—not an easy catch, but the estate must have liked the film and approved the tracks used within. Some first look images of the film have arrived as well as the first poster that gives you a taste of what’s to come.
