First Look At Benicio Del Toro In 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Plus New Details

The cautious curtain raising for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” continues this week as Vanity Fair reveals more from their latest issue dedicated to the upcoming blockbuster. Some fresh details have also been spilled about a couple of new characters joining the ranks of the franchise.

Most significantly, it’s been revealed that Benicio Del Toro will be playing the enigmatically named DJ (which I’m sure is short for a much longer, spoiler-ridden name), who plays an “unscrupulous drifter,” which the galaxy seems to be filled with. Laura Dern, who is always a highlight of whatever she’s in, will be bringing Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo to life. Meanwhile, we’ll also see Paige, a new fighter pilot under the guidance of Poe Dameron, played by Veronica Ngo. Beyond that, the magazine has a strong handful of new portraits of the leads by the legendary Annie Liebovitz.

Meanwhile over at EW, John Boyega offered some intriguing teases about how Finn, who we last saw in a coma, will be getting back on his feet. “Finn’s in a bad way at the end of ‘VII.’ He has a lot of issues. He got slashed with a saber, and that took him down real hard, so he’s in a coma. That [bacta] suit, that whole thing helps him to recover. But we’re not sure whether that means he’ll wake up,” he said.

“There’s some additional few things that need to be done to make him mobile. He’s definitely in a place where he needs some help,” Boyega teased. And once he’s in action, it sounds like the character is going to get right back into the thick of things.

“The funny thing is, between ‘VII’ and ‘VIII,’ Finn’s now a big deal! He is now a big deal. Imagine that – you get taken down by Kylo Ren. Think about what the gossip’s going to be like in the Resistance. ‘Oh, that’s the guy that got slashed down by Kylo?’ ” he added.

Lots to think about as we wait for December 15th to arrive.
