First Look: Jessica Chastain In 'Woman Walks Ahead'

Jessica Chastain already has one movie in the awards season mix, with Aaron Sorkin‘s directorial debut “Molly’s Game” on the horizon. But she’s also got a potential contender with “Woman Walks Ahead,” which is headed to the Toronto International Film Festival for its World Premiere.

Directed by Susanna White (“Our Kind Of Traitor“), written by Steven Knight (“Eastern Promises,” “Locke“) and co-starring Michael Greyeyes, the film tells the true story of a woman who becomes involved in Native American rights. Here’s the official synopsis:

Based on true events, Woman Walks Ahead tells the story of Catherine Weldon, a widowed artist from New York in the 1880s, who traveled to North Dakota to paint a portrait of Chief Sitting Bull. Catherine and Sitting Bull, each broken in their own way, come to recognize their mutual strength. Soon, the wider political struggle for Native American land rights influences their friendship. Catherine and Sitting Bull overcome personal adversity to fight against the US government’s takeover of the Plains Indians’ lands.

“Woman Walks Ahead” doesn’t have a U.S. distributor yet, so this will definitely be a hot ticket in Toronto.womanwalksahead Jessica Chastain Woman-Walks-Ahead-Jessica-Chastain
