Gal Gadot Goes To War In 'Ruin,' Christian Bale Offered Role

Director Justin Kurzel has flexed his filmmaking muscles a few different ways so far in his career. He broke out with the stomach-churning thriller “The Snowtown Murders,” delivered his atmospheric take on Shakespeare‘s “Macbeth,” and then tried his hand, rather unsuccessfully, with blockbuster fare on “Assassin’s Creed.” Now, he’s tilting back toward something smaller scale, but that once again finds the director in new territory with a war movie.

Gal Gadot is in talks to star in “Ruin,” with Christian Bale mulling a lead role. Penned by Matt and Ryan Firpo, the film will tell the story of an ex-Nazi captain who hunts down a former member of his SS Death Squad amidst the rubble of post-WWII Germany in a bid to make amends for his crimes. There’s no word yet on Gadot’s role, but should Bale sign on, he’ll take the lead role.

“Ruin” is aiming to shoot in early 2018, giving Bale some time to slim down after playing Dick Cheney for Adam McKay and do the awards circuit for “Hostiles,” while also not getting in the way of Gadot’s schedule for “Wonder Woman 2,” which will apparently roll next summer. Already drawing comparisons to “Inglourious Basterds” and “Fury,” it looks like a lean and mean WWII movie, and while his output may vary, Kurzel has always had a firm handle on style. Hopefully, this won’t have any trouble getting in front of cameras. [Deadline/THR]
